Information literacy

People say IT removes obstacles such as nationality and geography. But I think, I'm Japanese, it's serious problem if we can use English because most information on the Internet are described in English. If we can only use Japanese, that means we still live in a closed community as the real society.

James Surowiecki wrote his book "The Wisdom of Crowds". In that, he explains that an idea many people share is better than expert's idea. It's amazing. And the Internet is a very tool to take advantage of the wisdom of crowds. The quality of the wisdom of crowds depends of a number of its participants. That's why I'm concerned about the people who can't use English on the Internet. At this point, English is the most common language in the Internet.

If we, Japanese, won't be aware of an importance of common language, information disparity will be getting worse before we awake. We may be driven into a corner economically and mentally in the near future.

Actually I don't insist "We have to learn English. It's our duty!". I don't believe imposing anything doesn't release our potential ability. I just want people to figure out the infinite possibility of the Internet. Anybody can use it without any conditions. And English helps us to improve our life.

Kobe

Kobe...
I have lived in this city since 2005. Before that, we lived in Tokyo for 28 years.

Characteristic of this city is variety.
Mountain and sea. Various kinds of people like Indian, Chinese and Korean. Historical and modern buildings. Religion such as Buddism, Chiristianity and Islam.

I love these varieties. Monoculture or believing there is only one culture are dangerous from biological point of view. If we depend on one culture, a possibility to damage seriously because of an environmental change is very high. If our mindsets are various, someone has a solution when we face a problem.

Oops, my thinking was out of track.
My thinking always expands if we enjoy a cup of coffee in the comfortable cafe in Kobe.

Quantum physics in Biology

Recently I’m interested in quantum physics. Phenomena in small world are really amazing. Who believes an electron has characteristics of particle and wave at the same time? Who seriously believe that an electron goes through multiple slits at the same time if we don’t observe. If we try observe that motion, all trajectories of the electron shrinks to a specific one. Can you believe it?

By the way, neuro-scientists in the world are now studying to figure out our brains. Some people simulate neurons by computers. However they fail to recreate our brains. Why? Because computers can only handle simple concept, Input and Output. If we want to make that calculation more complex, only thing we can do is to change calculation combination.

Anyway Computers need input, “initial conditions” and “boundary conditions”. Meanwhile our brains don’t look to care those prefaces. So I wonder how we decide something without specific conditions. I guess that quantum phenomena in neurons play important role. I was heard Roger Penrose, a famous scientist, is studying the relations between quantum physics and our mind.

Reading books

I love reading.
Basically I finish reading a book in a week. Why do I read so many books? That is because I'm curious guy, but I can't go everywhere I want. Reading is the second best option for me to understand the world, human being. My challenge is how to output my knowledge to the society. This is very difficult.
